Stay in Touch with Japan All Year Long

with the Japan-America Society

The Japan-America Society of Washington DC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational and cultural organization of individuals and institutions with an interest in Japan and U.S.-Japan relations. Founded in 1957, the Society promotes greater understanding between Americans and Japanese through its many cultural, public affairs, and educational programs.

In addition to the Sakura Matsuri, the Society hosts the fall Otsukimi moon-viewing party and participates in the Japanese New Years Festival; runs the oldest Japanese language school in the area; organizes an annual baseball outing to see Japanese players take on the Washington Nationals; and hosts special Japanese food and sake tasting events and beer garden parties.

The Society also introduces area students to Japanese life and culture through its in-school programs and sponsors the National Japan Bowl®, a competition for high school students of Japanese from across the country.

With its setting in the nation’s capital, the Japan-America Society also hosts  public affairs and corporate programs that focus on the current political, economic, and defense relationship between the United States and Japan. This culminates in the Annual Public Affairs Dinner, usually held in the fall, with a senior leader of the United States or Japan as guest speaker.

There’s more to us than the Sakura Matsuri. We hope you’ll stay in touch with Japan all year long by joining us as a member.
