Japanese Street Festival

The Martial Arts Stage is on Freedom Plaza, on Pennsylvania Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This year’s martial arts demonstrators come from:

 

Aikido of Arlington
Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art which redirects an attacking opponent, utilizing an attacker’s motion and energy back against them.

 

Capital Area Budokai

Capital Area Budokai supports the traditional Japanese martial arts of kendo, kyudo, naginata, jodo, battodo, and iaido at its dojo in Alexandria.  

 

Capital Area Jodokai

Practices Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo and ancillary arts as taught by Kaminoda Tsunemori (Menkyo Kaiden) in Japan, at the Capital Area Budokai in Alexandria, VA. 

 

             Capital Area Tendokan

             Capital Area Tendokan presents a demonstration of                      the Japanese halberd, the naginata.

 

            Georgetown University Judo Club

            One of the top judo clubs in the nation, it has over 100 members of all ages and nationalities.

 

Miyako Kyudo Jo

Kyudo is Japanese archery. It emphasizes the balance between action and tranquility. Miyako Kyudo Jo practices in Hyattsville and Takoma Park MD.

 

Northern Virginia Kyudo Kai

Its style emphasizes reishakei, or ceremonial shooting. It has practice areas in Alexandria and King George VA as well as Englewood Cliffs NJ.

 

Seigneury Ju-Jitsu & Judo

Seigneury Ju-Jitsu is a classical style of Ju-Jitsu derived from the unarmed combat style of the Samurai. The majority of its techniques remain as they were over 100 years ago. Their dojo is in Baltimore MD.

 

Virginia Kenshinkai

Practices Nakamura Ryu Battodo under the Kakuseikai and Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo under the Gyokusuikai at the Capital Area Budokai in Alexandria, VA.  The Sword Spirit Dojo will perform martial arts with swords.
